New Zealand outdoor gear maker and repair specialist TwinNeedle  is holding nothing back when it comes to stoking up on components for their products and services. Matt Hobbs took me on a personal tour recently to show me all the mil-spec goodies in his store. All military grade plastic & metal buckles, tri-glides, fabrics, zippers and webbing of various colors, sizes and patterns dominates the storage area. I can only see quality stuff in store.

Military gear are made tough and rugged. That’s the reality of it. That is probably one of the reasons why many are taking up mil-spec grade equipment. The last thing you want to happen when you are out and about is broken gear. Using equipment made using mil-spec components gives you that extra assurance that it will live up to some abuse.

As usual, Matt Hobbs took the time to show me around their workshop and store area. It is amazing how much things are going on here. There’s just so mcuh work in progress here. There were trolleys of generic brands of gear (packs, tents etc) for repairs and on one table, stacks of military pack components being put together.

I guess when it comes to military gear, the first thing that would come to mind are fabrics, buckles and webbings. Names like DuPont, Kryptek and ITW are well known for producing high quality products that is much sought after in the tactical and hunting industry. TwinNeedle stocks all these mil-spec goodies in their workshop. I am truly privileged to be given the tour. Never in my life have I seen so much mil-spec fabrics and buckles under one roof.
