I finally had the chance to field test the custom sling pouch done up by Malaysian custom bag maker Garrison Packs. As usual, Ben was superbly accommodating, knowing well by now that each of my orders needed to be completed yesterday! I have tried many products as my every day carry. I have tried brands like Mountainsmith (models Day & Tour), LBT14868A and even an old Eagle Industries waist pouch. They are all great but somewhat each and everyone of them falls either in the category or too small or too big. So, I decided to make a sketch of what I wanted and the size for Ben to make for me.
The quest for the perfect size and design is never ending. However, this particular custom sling pouch is doing really well for me. It is neither too big nor too small and my stuff is neatly organized as to how I like it.
My initial design to Ben had a few molle rows going at the front of the pouch. With the pouch finally made without the molle, I kept looking at it without regret. It is kinda liberating not having to stick with the military wannabe stigma. This design was mostly inspired by the S.O.Tech Mission Go bag which was my favorite EDC bag for the past 2 years. It is a really good bag except that it was way bigger than what I needed.
This Garrison Pack custom sling pouch has accompanied me on my 2 weeks road trip in New Zealand (together with my Kifaru Marauder). It has performed way better than I expected and I am truly happy with it. As I am typing this, I can’t help but wonder what faults can I find of it. Perhaps the pen lines that Ben has left on the fabric or perhaps its the color black that I have chosen over my favorite FG color. Anyway, it is still my best EDC sling pouch to date and I will be field testing it for a bit longer before swapping it with another.
Note: This custom sling pouch was made by Garrison Packs (Malaysia) based on a design put together by myself. If you are interested to get your own bag or ppoiuch designed made up, please look Ben up on Garrison Pack facebook page.
