My design to bag maker Garrison Packs

I have finalized a few designs for Malaysian bag maker Garrison Packs to make for me. Its been a few sleepless nights trying to come up with the designs. There are many features and ‘characters’ from various brands and models of nylon products in the market that I really like and trying to Frankenstein all of them into a single unit has not met with much success. Thankfully, I got a call from Ben (owner of Garrison Packs) and he assured me, the best approach for the first design is clean and simple.

After much consideration, I decided to have bag maker Garrison Packs make an EDC sling pouch for me. There are many working trips lined up on the horizon (and possibly an international posting) for me, hence a front sling pouch is would be ideal at this point of time. I have decided that I need this to:

  • make it easier for me to access items (as opposed to rummaging through my bag)
  • have important items and documents (like passport) on me all the time
  • work like a mini go-bag during my travels

I have always used sling pouches on a daily basis. While I enjoyed the simplicity of my old bum bag by Fairydown, I think I needed a bit more space and other options to make it more versatile. It would have some pockets built in internally to help with content organization. But most importantly, it has to be black and not-military looking.

I sent my sketch of the design to Ben to have him make up my sling pouch soonest possible. I was expecting a ‘higher than usual’ price tag on a custom made pouch like this but to my surprise, it was actually very reasonable. Ben assured me this was not a ‘special price’. I happily paid my deposit, shook his hand and bid farewell.

I am excited that I have just commissioned my first pouch to  custom bag maker Ben. Nothing beats custom made or made to suit products I reckon. I will now wait anxiously for Ben to call me to collect the pouch!
