Malaysians can now draw up their own designs and have customized bags, pouches etc made up at Garrison Packs. Garrison Packs is based in Selangor but their products and services have reached shores as far as Europe, New Zealand and neighboring Singapore. Using mostly mil-spec materials on their wares, Garrison Pack consists of people who are really passionate about their nylon carries. They carry in stock plenty of genuine Cordura fabrics, ITW components for military use (they even have Austrialpins) and gosh….the largest collection of Kifaru packs in Malaysia I have ever seen.

I met up with Ben, the owner and operator of Garrison Packs at his residence. Here, he has a small workshop done up to fit 3 specialized machines. There are plenty of packs, materials, satchels, pouches cramped into this workshop. Ben has everything imaginable to build a complete pack system. This guy takes his customized bag making very seriously.

Ben’s interest in everything cordura goes beyond just making customized bags. He enjoys the outdoors and goes camping whenever he can. Though he admits the recent arrival of his baby meant camping and hunting would have to take the back seat for a while. Staying home with his baby and working on the sewing machines does seem like a good combination at the moment.

My big question to him is where he gets his materials from. Not locally was his immediate response. He has invested a reasonably amount of money on materials from suppliers in the USA and Canada. His 1000D and 500D stock of Cordura is amazing. Not to mention the variety of colors too. All the different colors of fabrics comes matched with a variety of colored mil-spec webbing. All neatly tucked away in the cabinets.

We spent some time talking about pack designs, materials, concepts etc. It was really satisfying to be able to chat with someone who knows his packs. The fact that we had a few Kifarus present to talk about was something else. Time really flies that evening chatting with Ben.

I have already made up my mind that I will get Ben to custom make some of the designs of packs and pouches I have in mind. The sample of craftsmanship on his products I saw is really impressive.  Everything I would expect from a high quality mil-spec pack is here. Ben’s walking foot Pfaff sewing machines can sew through layers of cordura fabrics and the quality threads he uses is as strong as you can get. I am thoroughly impressed to say the least.

Garrison Packs provides customized bags construction, repairs, modifications and sale of finished products. As far as I can see, their products are legit and of the highest quality. Ben is a nice friendly chap and happy to take inquiries any time.

So, if you are particularly looking for customized packs to be made up in Malaysia, you should really look up Garrison Packs and their Facebook page. You will not be disappointed.

  1. I like that you can make almost any kind of pack out of nylon. I have noticed that a lot of people will get that kind of bags and use them for all sorts of things. The material is really nice and can make for good camp gear packs.
